We are pleased to announce that Sharon Manion’s Bluegrass T-shirt quilt was auctioned off during Fanfest at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass in Nashville, TN on Friday, October 5th. Patti Crooker, promoter of the Thomas Point Beach Festival in Brunswick, Maine placed the winning bid of $2500.00. Proceeds from this auction will benefit both the SWBMAI and the International Bluegrass Music Museum.
“The quilt was made from 54 vintage T-shirts of various bluegrass artists, such as Bill Monroe. I worked on this quilt for several months and after I had it completed, I had many people look at it with great interest. Several people suggested that I get this quilt to IBMA for auction since it was so unique. I’m glad I took their advice. I thank Hagar Nelson for approaching me over a year ago to ask if I’d make a quilt from his shirts. With Hagar’s donation from his extensive T-shirt collection, accumulated during the years that he has supported this music, he gave me this wonderful opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind quilt.” Proceeds from the sale will go towards promoting Bluegrass music in the Southern Wisconsin area. We at SWBMAI would like to offer our extreme thanks to Sharon for her outstanding contributions!
